How To Get Hawkmoon - Destiny 2 (Epic Hand Cannon) (2024)

Destiny 2 has been a popular game since its release back in September of 2017. Bungie, the developers of the game, continue to support it with updates and new content. Recently they released a new expansion called The Witch Queen which has added even more reasons to play the game. There are now new challenges to undertake, weapons and gear to earn, and secrets to uncover. So if you’re looking for something new to play or just want to get back into Destiny 2, the time is now.

And what is a better way to start your Destiny 2 journey than getting an exotic weapon? There isn’t a better way.

Destiny 2 players looking to add the exotic hand cannon, Hawkmoon, to their arsenal will need to complete the Hawkmoon exotic quest that has a series of steps. This guide will provide a step-by-step walkthrough on how to start the Hawkmoon quest and acquire this powerful weapon.

Before I go through the entire Hawkmoon quest steps, let me explain what makes it so powerful.

What Is Hawkmoon?

Hawkmoon is a powerful exotic handgun. It has the perk: Paracausal Shot. This perk means final blows and precision hits with Hawkmoon grant stacks of Paracausal Charge which give the final round in the magazine bonus damage based on the number of stacks it currently has. This is a great perk for all types of enemies. You are able to take out lower health enemies if needed or do big damage to enemies with a higher health pool.

This weapon was first introduced in the original Destiny, however, the perks and stats have changed over time. Courtesy of Light.gg, you can find the exact stats for the Hawkmoon below:

  • Impact 84
  • Range 57
  • Stability 67
  • Handling 74
  • Reload Speed 63
  • Reload Time 2.65s
  • Aim Assistance 93
  • Inventory Size 52
  • Zoom 14
  • Recoil 96
  • Bounce Intensity 4
  • Rounds Per Minute 140
  • Magazine 8

How To Start?

It is important to note that this item is only obtainable if you have the Season of the Hunt pass. However, with the recent Witch Queen release, this may have already been moved into the vault. So if you are looking to acquire a Hawkmoon for free, better do so quickly. After it will be moved Monument to Lost Lights. This vendor offers all of the Exotics and Pinnacle weapons that have been removed from the game’s original season quests. Xur is likely to sell it as well.

So if you are too late to the party, then you will need currency to get this weapon. But the questline offers a Hawkmoon with fixed stats.

Speak To Spider and Get The “As The Crow Flies” Quest

As I stated earlier before you can start the Hawkmoon exotic quest you will need the “Season of the Hunt” pass. You will also have completed the starting quests for the “Season of the Hunt” pass, concluding with the “Trail of the Hunted.”

If you already have done that, well, then you can go right ahead and find Spider in the Tangled Shore. Here he will give you the quest, “As the Crow Flies.” You will now need to find some feathers, five of them to be exact. I will tell you exactly where to find them below.

Search For The Five Paracausal Feathers

Finding these feathers will require some traveling, but they are easy enough to spot once you know where to look. It helps that they are gold and shine brightly, making it easier for you.

  • First Feather: The first golden feather is on top of a pod/crate thing, outside of Spider’s Lair. It is near the entrance.
  • Second Feather: In The Sludge in EDZ. It will up high on a broken walkway of a rundown mill. The walkway will be facing a grove. Clamber onto it and grab the feather.
  • Third Feather: For the third feather you will need to go to The Steppes, Cosmodrome. In the landing area, near the vendor, climb the pillar to find the next feather.
  • Fourth Feather: Go to the Dreaming City using the Divalian Mists landing zone. Go to the entrance of the Blind Well, on your left is a pillar with a small indent with the feather. Watch out as there will be enemies around.
  • Fifth (and final) Feather: The fifth feather will take some traveling, compared to others but is easy. Go to the Moon and work your way through tunnels to the Shrine of Oryx. Go behind it and you will find the feather laying in a bed of foliage.

Speak To The Crow To Start “Let Loose Thy Talons” Questline

Great, you found are five feathers, now you on to the next quest. Time to go back to Spider’s Lair on the Tangled Shore. Talk to Crow to begin the questline “Let Loose Thy Talons.” The first step of many is to complete the quest “A Cry From Beyond.”

Complete “A Cry From Beyond”

This quest is simple, you will have to battle some enemies that are in your way, but that’s always fun, right? Anyway, Go to The Sludge Landing Zone in EDZ and find the glowing gold bird to start the mission. Explore the Hallowed Grove like the mission states. Continue the quest until you find the effigy of Hawkmoon. Defeat the necessary enemies and pick up the effigy of Hawkmoon to complete the quest. Like I said this quest is simple.

Collect Orbs of Power

With “A Cry From Beyond” completed, head back to Crow on the Tangled Shore to get the next step. You will have to collect Orbs of Power to power the effigy of Hawkmoon. The best way to do this is by equipping any Masterwork weapons and farming any area you like.

The Tangled Shore or Blind Well are fine areas. Getting a double kill with a Masterworked weapon will generate an orb and one point added to the counter and another for picking up an orb. Whenever you are done, head back to Crow for the next step.

Collecting More Feathers

Once you are done with Crow, it’s time for another feather run. Yay! Unlike the previous quest where feathers had to be collected, this one actually shows you where there are. So these feathers are actually unmissable since they are marked like resources on the screen.

Travel to Trostland in the EDZ. Simply follow the on-screen indicator to an open door leading to a reservoir. Go through the mission picking up feathers and defeating any enemies in your way.

This mission doesn’t have many branching paths so the feathers should be easy enough to spot. You will need a total of five feathers, four of them will be collected on your way to the boss. The final feather will drop from the boss at the end of the mission. If you collected all of the feathers, it is time to go back to the Tangled Shore.

Kill Champions or Guardians

Once you are back on the Tangled Shore, speak to Crow again in Spider’s Lair to get the next step. This step is extremely simple but will take some time compared to the others. Depending on what method you choose will determine how fast you will get this done. To complete this step you need to kill 200 Guardians (players) or 35 Champions.

If you are more of a PvP player then this is music to your ears. Unless you suck of course and you just play for fun. Doing gambit and crucible matches is the best way to get this done. Either way, this method will most likely take longer to complete due to how many players you need to kill.

Going the champion route will most likely be the best route to take. You can do a Legend or Master Empire Hunt or a Legend or Mater Lost Sector depending on what is currently available.

Whatever method you decide to end up choosing, when you are done it is almost time to claim the Exotic Hawkmoon. It has been a long road.

Complete “The Crow and The Hawk” Quest

You have finally reached the final quest and it is quite simple enough. It is very similar to “A Cry From Beyond.” Let’s go to The Sludge in the EDZ for one last time (for this questline anyway.) Find the golden bird again and go to it to start the final mission of the questline. Follow the Hawk and take out any Taken along the way. Much like last time, you will need to do some traversal and platforming through the area.

Make your way to the grove arena. Here you will need to take down the Taken barrier. There are enemies with barriers around them as well. You will need to grab the relics that are lying on the ground and throw them at the enemies with the shield. Doing so will remove their shield and allow you to kill them. This will help decrease the barrier’s strength.

Once the barrier is down and that objective is complete, you will automatically gain the Hawkmoon. However, you still have a boss fight ahead of you. Throw more relics at the boss and defeat him and you are all done and the weapon is yours. That wasn’t so bad, was it? This questline could be completed within a few hours if you know what to do.

Conclusion

So there you have it, the exotic quest is done. All the steps you need to take in order to obtain the powerful Destiny 2 hand cannon, Hawkmoon. Completing these quests won’t be easy but it will definitely be worth it once you wield this weapon in battle.

Be sure to complete them before The Witch Queen releases if you don’t want to waste any resources trying to get her yourself! Are you excited about the latest expansion? Do you think this is a step in the right direction for the series? Let us know in the comments below.
